Wait Time Information

 

Wait for gastric banding is approximately 2-3 months from time of your initial consultation. This procedure is not covered by OHIP and is therefore only available to patients who are willing to cover the cost of this operation. The price includes the operation and all follow-up care.

The wait for laparoscopic gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy is approximately 18 months from the time of your initial consultation until surgery. The cost of these operations is covered by the hospital and the Ministry of Health. We have recently received significant funding in support of our Bariatric Surgery Program which will allow us to do many more operations per year. We are currently in the process of increasing our capacity dramatically and hope this will be reflected in a shorter wait time.

Please note that exceptions will be made for patients who have serious life threatening conditions that are expected to improve or resolve after surgery.
